About UsSimple Living Institute, Inc. was started in 2002 by a group of Central Floridians wanted to create a stronger community that valued the environment, personal health, and had a vision for a more self-sufficient lifestyle. Our first brainstorming session was held on a blanket at Langford Park in downtown Orlando. Shortly after bringing our ideas together, we incorporated the Simple Living Institute, Inc. as a nonprofit organization and applied for 501c3 exempt status from the IRS. Since incorporation, we've been reaching out to the community by hosting educational programs at community parks and universities, and at a property leased to us that we have dubbed "the Econ Farm." We have also been active with other like-minded organizations, participating in their local events and programs whenever possible. After a five-year probationary period, Simple Living Institute, Inc. was granted final exempt organizational status by the IRS in April of 2007, becoming an official 170(b)(1)(a)(vi) public charity governed under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Our official mission is: •to scientifically research and develop working organic farms with effective soil, water, plant and wildlife conservation; •to publish findings for the scientific and general community; •and to provide cooperative education experiences empowering individuals and organizations as responsible stewards of their well-being and the environment. In short, we strive to create opportunities for sustainable living in our community. >View our Brochure (.pdf) In The MediaView our complete Media page.O Magazine "Back To Basics: Living With Voluntary 'Simplicity'," by Allison Glock Founders of Simple Living Institute, Tia and Terry Meer, were one of several simple livers around the nation featured in this article about going back to basics.
